My new job includes a faculty appointment at North Park Theological Seminary. Recently, I responded to a paper presented by Dr. Lewis Brogdon at the Symposium on the Theological Interpretation of Scripture wherein we tackled the issue of race. Timely. Brogdon's paper argued compellingly for a liberating reading of the book of Philemon, and I had the privilege of responding to it. Just in case you have a spare hour or so . . . .
Take the time though; who knew that Paul's short letter to Philemon could be so foundational to how the church today can be good news to the oppressed and marginalized?
